Cypress Ranch lost a three-game match to Katy, finishing as the fourth-place team in district and area finalist.

Cypress Ranch Varsity Volleyball is in Sole Possession of Third Place

September 17, 2011 – Cypress Ranch Varsity Volleyball is in sole possession of third place in district play with a record of 5-2. This week they battled against Cy-Creek on Tuesday evening. After losing the first two sets, the team regrouped and came back strong with solid hitting from seniors Kristen Kirk and Kirsten Mamaux. The defense stepped up under the leadership and hustle of junior Michaela Touchet. Unfortunately they were unable to hold on during the fifth set and lost 15-8. Then, on Friday evening, the Mustangs took on the Cy-Fair Bobcats at home. Ranch dominated the first set behind the superb hitting of senior Shannon Wilson. However, they struggled in sets two and three and came up short in both. The Mustangs took the floor to start set four and came on strong both offensively and defensively. Freshman Shelly Fanning turned up the heat with several kills and Wilson return with outstanding hitting from the right side. With the support of the home crowd, the Mustangs were able to hold on for the amazing win in the fifth set and took over third place in the district.

Ranch Mustang Volleyball Keep Winning

August 30, 2011 -- Cypress Ranch Varsity Volleyball notched a second 3-0 sweep in district play as they faced Cypress Springs this Tuesday night. Ranch dominated the first set 25-14 with strong hitting from seniors Chelsea Spurlock, Kristin Kirk, and Kirsten Mamaux. Kirk claimed the final point of the set with a decisive block. In the second set, the Mustangs overcame Cy Springs’ athletic presence at the net with kills from Kirk, junior Rachel Grier, and freshman Shelley Fanning. Service aces from senior setter Taylor McClelland along with defensive hustle plays by junior Michaela Touchet and senior Meredith Pruitt added to the score. A big block by Fanning followed by a monster kill from senior Shannon Wilson ended the set, 27-25. Spurlock, Wilson and Mamaux brought more offense in the third set, while McClelland and junior setter Emily Martin supplied the assists. A swift kill by senior Lauren Bratton sparked the Mustangs mid-set as junior Emily Billingsley created options for the offense with solid passing. Senior Laura Paonessa made pivotal digs throughout the third set and tallied the final point with a service ace at 25-14.

The Lady Mustangs will compete this Thursday and Saturday in the Kingwood Varsity Tournament. Their next district match is on Friday at Cypress Ranch where they will meet Langham Creek for the first time this season.
